After breakfast, head towards Amalfi coast passing through Praiano where came under the rule of nearby Amalfi during the Maritime Republics era. The beautiful Praiano hosts important traditional festivals and cultural events yearly. A series of attractive little white houses lines the road stretches from Praiano to the small towns of Furore and Conca dei Marini. The town, located on extremely impervious terrain, is known for its local cuisine made from local tomatoes, olive oil, potatoes, and mountain herbs. Just beyond Furore, we come to Conca dei Marini, a village known for the Grotta dello Smeraldo (Emerald Grotto).
Arrive at the historic town of Amalfi, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once the ruler of the seas in the 12th century, the town’s gradual decline of power hasn’t diminished the beauty of its monuments, such as the cathedral: a veritable gothic masterpiece completed with highly decorative façade and impressive height of steps. The immense cathedral bronze doors were recognized in Constantinople in 1065. While walking through the picturesque lanes of Amalfi that are lined with white cottages and shops, you may smell the scent of the sfusato lemons that grow in abundance on this stretch of coast and are used to make the area’s highly prized Limoncello liquor.
After the morning panoramic tour along the Amalfi coast, head to an agricultural / wine estate in the Vesuvius Park, where we will have lunch and a tasting of locally produced wines with a visit to the farm.
After the farm visit, we will move on to Pompeii. Your private guide will take you to the luxurious villas, temples, theater, and forum of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, destroyed in AD 79 by the Vesuvius eruption. In the late afternoon return to Sorrento and stay overnight.
After breakfast and head to the marvelous world-famous island of Capri. As you travel south across the Bay of Naples, you will see the unique and dramatic outline of Capri, one of the most elegant resorts. Capri was the playground of Roman Emperors and Patricians for centuries, and the Romans built villas and undertook great engineering projects on the island. Augustus had his favorite seaside villa on Capri, and his successor Tiberius built what is now the best-preserved Roman Villa in Italy, Villa Jovis. Capri became popular with European artists, musicians, and writers in the end of the 19th century including Debussy, Somerset Maugham, and many more. Today it is still a magnet for many travelers.
The guided tour in Capri will start from the upper part: Anacapri. The tour may also take you to Villa San Michele, the fabulous villa of Dr. Axel Munthe. Weather permitting, you can stroll through the shops and relax in one of the many outdoor cafes. In the city of Capri, visit the famous Piazza Umberto I, many elegant shops, and famous restaurants. Admire the gardens colored by Augusto overlooking the famous Faraglioni and Marina Piccola.
